The New York Yankees are dealing with significant pitching injuries. Gerrit Cole is out for the whole season following Tommy John surgery, and Luis Gil will be sidelined due to a lat strain.
The Yankees might be hesitant to offer the necessary cost for a pitcher such as Dylan Cease, Sandy Alcántara, Luis Castillo, or Michael King. Nonetheless, they could secure a suitable addition to their roster from the San Francisco Giants pitching staff. FanSided's Nick San Miguel suggested this trade that would send Jordan Hicks to the Yankees:
- The Yankees acquire: right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks
- Giants receive: left-handed pitcher Tim Hill

This off-season, the Yankees offered Hill a new contract worth $2.8 million for one year. This agreement also features a club option set at $3 million for the 2027 season. By doing so, they would lose one of their consistent left-handed pitchers.
New York stands to acquire an electrifying, though occasionally unpredictable, pitcher with the potential to excel as a starter," wrote San Miguel. "This deal could prove advantageous for both parties if carried out effectively.
Last year, Hicks inked a four-year, $44 million contract with the Giants. During the previous season, he began in 20 games and pitched out of the bullpen on nine occasions. His totalERA stood at 4.10; however, this figure was marginally lower when he started compared to when he came in from the bullpen. Given their current needs, the Giants might consider trading him for potential upgrades in the relief pitching department.
"After the Giants traded away left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers, they created an opening for a lefty reliever in the bullpen alongside Erik Miller," wrote San Miguel. "There is no guarantee the Giants will carry two left-handed relievers, but if manager Bob Melvin thinks that is a necessity, then having the veteran Tim Hill on the team could be a wise move."
The Yankees are less than two weeks away from opening day. They could simply wait until the trade deadline to add a starter, but they would risk falling too far behind in the American League standings.
